Kenya Water Institute (KEWI), recognized as a leading institution in producing high caliber human capital for the water sector in the region, has to realize its vision, mission and strategic objectives with regards to academics. Against this backdrop, the Academic Affairs Division is expected to provide leadership in all areas of academic and student affairs in order to guarantee innovative and student-centered approach to teaching. This is in an environment that also creates new academic bases and nurtures outstanding graduates who are highly regarded by employers.

With the division main function being to conduct trainings, offer examinations and award certificates, it’s required to offer a range of regular programs in Kenya National Qualifications Frameworks KNQF 6 (Diploma), KNQF 5 (Certificate) and KNQF 4 (Artisan) Levels.

To enhance this, the division and as a mean to deliver its core mandate of Training has departments that help deliver this key deliverable. The departments are Water and Wastewater Engineering (WWE), Water Resources & Environmental Management (WREM), Management and Information Technology (MIT) and Library and Resource Centre (LRC).

The division further takes keen interest in the affairs of the students to facilitate their personal development and wellness. The office of the Senior Principal Registrar has been tasked with the onerous duty of enhancing development and provision of programs, services and facilities that enhance curricula and co-curricular activities. Such activities include Counseling, Psychology and Wellness Services, Sports and Recreation Services, Student Unions and Activities among others.

Therefore, in pursuit of its functions, the Academic Affairs Division shall continue to provide leadership in achieving KEWI’s goals of creating and sustaining a world-class enriched student’s experience. This way, our students will have learnt to act responsibly at the Institute level and embrace leadership both in the school and outside the school.

The Water and Wastewater Engineering Department at the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) is dedicated to building technical excellence and innovation in the management of water resources and sanitation systems. Through a diverse range of competency-based programs, the department equips trainees with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to design, operate, and maintain modern water and wastewater systems. These programs are tailored to address emerging sector needs and support Kenya’s sustainable development goals under Vision 2030 and the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The Water Resources and Environmental Management Department is dedicated to equipping learners with the technical knowledge and practical skills essential for sustainable water resources utilization and environmental stewardship. Through its diverse range of programs, the department prepares competent professionals capable of addressing emerging challenges in water management, quality assurance, and groundwater exploration, in alignment with national development goals and global sustainability standards.
